Halloween Social Story

What is a social story? How can you use one this week to support your child in preparing for Halloween and all the activities that are associated with this holiday including trick or treating and wearing a costume?

A social story is an individualized short story that describes social relevant cues in any given situation. It breaks down a challenging social situation into understandable steps by omitting irrelevant information and by being highly descriptive to help children and adults with exceptional needs understand the entirety of a situation.

There are a variety of social story topics available, but with Halloween being this Thursday, we have created a social story you can download here. This social story can be utilized with children who have emerging verbal skills and may be interested in consuming candy.

Additional Halloween social stories about carving pumpkins, handing out candy during Halloween, and trick or treating can be found here.

Teachers Pay Teachers also has social stories available here, but requires you to create an account to access the stories.

Should you have any additional questions about social stories and how to utilize them, please reach out to one of our Speech-Language Pathologists at www.collaborativecorner.org.

Happy Halloween!!!
