Celebrating Hanukkah Social Story

What is a social story? How can it be used with your child to support them during the celebration of Hanukkah?

A social story is an individualized short story that describes social relevant cues in any given situation. It breaks down a challenging social situation into understandable steps by omitting irrelevant information and by being highly descriptive to help children and adults with exceptional needs understand the entirety of a situation.

Hanukkah begins at sundown this Sunday, December 22 and will last 8 nights, ending at sundown on Monday, December 30. In preparation for this celebration, a pediatric occupational therapist, Rachel Davis, MOTR/L, shared the story of Hanukkah and with the support of one of our speech-language pathologists, a social story was created that you can download here.

Should you have any additional questions about social stories and how to utilize them, please reach out to one of our Speech-Language Pathologists at www.collaborativecorner.org.
