Red, White & Blue Cooking With Your Family

We are excited to share with you a red, white, and blue themed cooking activity for your family created by one of our Occupational Therapists! Aubrey has put together a simple and fun patriotic themed snack that can be adjusted to fit your child’s developmental level. Included in the video are tips on how to incorporate different fine motor skills and still keep your little one engaged.

Ingredients

  • Angel Food Cake

  • Strawberries (1 package)

  • Blueberries (1 package)

  • Bananas (2)

  • Vanilla pudding mix

  • Milk (2 cups)

  • 16oz Lite Cool Whip

  • Sprinkles

Craft Supplies

  • Colored Paper (Red, White & Blue)

  • Scissors

  • Pen

  • Markers

Steps:

  1. Wash hands & Fruit

  2. Cut angel food cake into bite sized pieces

  3. Slice strawberries and bananas

  4. Place fruit into bowl

  5. Create Labels

    • Trace shape onto colored paper pages (I chose the bottom of a milk carton)

    • Cut out shape

    • Create dotted line letters for your child to trace, for this activity I wrote “red, white & blue.”

    • Have your child trace over the letters on each letter

    • Match up corners on label and pinch/press to fold label in half

  6. Divide fruit into separate containers using the labels to match the color of fruit to-option use pinch grip or tongs to separate to work on hand muscles

  7. Make pudding-follow instructions on box and allow to cool

  8. Fold cool whip into pudding

  9. Layer ingredients into clear plastic cup

  10. Cover and place cups in fridge to cool

  11. Remove and enjoy!
